Daiwa Pacific Charter 2, September 12,

The first hookup was on a trolling rod, and it was one that was assigned to me, so I sort of had the first hook up again. Dennis was on hand with his camera. A few people are watching me in this shot because it was the first one of the day. After that, everyone is too busy to care what other people are catching. It's so exciting to feel that tug on the rod. It's just instinct to want to pull that thing in. I don't understand it at all, and I never expected to have that reaction. I get so bored by watching or playing games. I've played play pool, and I just don't care at all what ball goes in what pocket. But when a dumb fish falls for my bait, I just want to drag him in. Especially the ones that pull me all over the boat. They have a lot of nerve! About half of the people from the first charter came along on this one, and there were a few new Petco people and some of the vendors who joined us before, and some new ones too. Everyone got along great, except that no one would do the "tuna shuffle" and it was driving a few of us crazy. |

Because it was my second charter, I at least knew
what to expect as far as the sleeping quarters, and the food. |
|
| The bunks are stacked three high on the left and two on the right. It's pretty close quarters. (I've heard that on the 16 day trips the accommodations are much more luxurious, but that could mean anything...) | |

The food is cooked up in the galley, and it's nasty breakfast burritos in the morning and chili with raw onions and cheese for dinner. It's brutal, and I was very proud to be able to enjoy BOTH of these items on my second charter. I'm gettin' my sea legs! Okay, I have to admit that I was having a good old time fishing, and the chef announced "we will begin serving breakfast in about 15 minutes" I ran to the side of the boat and barfed. Something about the word "breakfast" just didn't sound good at that moment... but I was fine after that, and I even ate half of a breakfast burrito. |
